Henry Hudson April 5 Both 8 Upstream at high tide to Van Wies Point & 215. Lunch at 214. Strong quartering wind after lunch.
Coxsackie April 8 M 17 Upstream to Shady Harbor, stops at Bronck Island & RR Village. Windy at first, turning calm.
Stuyvesant Landing April 15 M 14 Downstream to Four Mile Point, head to wind, paddle around Stockport Flats. A tanker & a tug. Five eagles. Lunch on SMG. Following wind on return.
Coxsackie April 17 Both 13 Upstream to Rattlesnake Island against tide & wind, brisk trip down to HRISP with both. Probed Empire Brickyard Bay. Return easy tide ride.
Nolan Road April 21 Both & Falcon 7 Upstream toward the dam, lunch nearby, swift current on return. Buffleheads & an osprey.
Henry Hudson April 23 Both 4 Explored Papscanee Creek (several times) & Moordener Kill. Spring activity slow to start.
Athens April 26 Both 12 Up west side MGF, mouth of Stockport Creek, Empire Brickyard Bay, rest at Gays Point. One beaver, many eagles & ospreys. Steady wind.
Stuyvesant Landing April 27 M 13 Downstream against tide to cove near Priming Hook. Some wind on return to spoil an easy tide ride.
Freddie's Park April 28 Both 11 Explored marshes both shores, a foray into Wagers Pond, two stops at Town Park. Much animal activity.
Coxsackie May 1 Both 10 Downstream on dwindling ebb to Priming Hook, explored Four Mile Point, SMG, Empire Brickyard Bay & Little Nutten Hook. Many eagles & ospreys again.
Coxsackie May 4 M 12 Warm day, mostly calm, lunch at RR Village. Green heron very congenial at Rattlesnake Island. One tanker, one tug.
Coxsackie May 5 Both 9 Very pleasant, quiet day. Explored Rattlesnake Island, Coxsackie Creek & east shore marsh. Not much happening.
Stuyvesant Landing May 6 Both 12 Met diners at Yanni's 2, lunch at Hannacroix Preserve. Return head to wind. Loon encountered both ways at New Baltimore.
Glasco Landing May 10 Both 7 Examined barge on rocks at Magdalen Island, repeatedly tracked back for numerous tugs. Lunch below Cruger Island, eventually perused part of South Bay.
Athens May 14 M 18 Easy paddle downstream, many ospreys & young eagles. Lunch on dredge island below Roe-Jan. Stiff breezes on the way back, head-to-wind.
Sojourner Truth Ulster Landing May 17 Both & Alan 9 Explored South Bay on low water, lunch near Cruger, visited barge on Magdalen Island. Stiff NW wind entire paddle.
Stuyvesant Landing May 18 M 9 Explored marshes below Poolsburg, turned with tide, unfortunate weather deterioration, doubled back around Rattlesnake Island.
Coxsackie May 21 M 8 Early launch to beat afternoon heat & storms. Big photo-op day, bank swallows & tugs.
Coxsackie May 27 Both 15 Long day on elevated water from runoff. Down to Priming Hook, lunch at SMG, Empire Brick Bay on flood, Little Nutten Hook and up to Rattlesnake Island. Many eagles & three tugs.
Henry Hudson May 30 M 9 Very high water from runoff, easily explored Pixtaway Island. Turnaround at Glenmont power plant, coasted on ebb along wall, many photo-ops.
Glasco Landing May 31 M 4 Extraordinary photo op at Magdalen Island, grounded Timm getting smashed to pieces by Newark Bay while six tugs passed by, seven altogether on the day.
Stuyvesant Landing June 1 M 9 Very quiet early, upstream to New Baltimore. Welcome breeze on return. Hot day.
Coxsackie June 3 M 12 Upstream to Bronck Island, adverse wind prevented landing, down to Nutten Hook, calm wind, back up to 166, wind blew hard again, turnaround, tricky take out.
Dutchman's Landing June 5 Both 15 Upriver past Hudson, carp activity, ospreys at 129, lunch at MGF. Via Hallenbeck Creek both ways.
Coxsackie June 9 Both 11 Anfractuous paddle around Stockport Flats, wandering to & fro. Five tugs.
Stuyvesant Landing June 15 M 14 Downstream with very strong current on high water from run-off, wandered around Stockport Flats.
Dunham Reservoir June 17 Both 3 Lively natural setting, pleasant until sudden thunder storms cut things short.
Dutchman's Landing June 19 Both 8 Ramshorn against tide with wind, Rogers Island against both tide & wind, return via Hallenbeck Creek. 17-year cicadas very noisy east shore.
Coxsackie June 20 M 12 Upstream to Poolsburg. Stop at RR Village, quickly back on water for tug convergence. Many photo ops on the day, both big birds & boats.
Dunham Reservoir June 21 M 3 An incredible five hours shooting odes!
Henry Hudson June 26 Both 7 Very high water from runoff, explored Papscanee & Pixtaway Island. Two tugs. One red fox.
Lock 7 July 5 Both 6 Major falcon photo op across the river from Llenroc.
Lock 7 July 7 Both & Jim 6 Reprise of 7/5 paddle.
Athens July 9 Both & Jim 11 Easy water, downstream to Dutchmans Landing for lunch. Ospreys & a tug. Water level at least two feet above normal.
Coxsackie July 12 Both 11 Water level rather low in Stockport Flats. Many eagles including an SMG family, young fully grown.
Raquette Lake July 14 Both & seadogs 14 Explored many islands & inlets under cloudy skies.
Stuyvesant Landing July 17 Both 8 Short paddle, very hot day. Two cargo ships passed each other early, two tugs, a spring azure stuck on a mukluk.
Coxsackie July 21 M 19 Lunch at Poolsburg, turnaround at Hannacroix Creek. Many pleasure boats & eagles, including belligerent juveniles.
Stuyvesant Landing July 27 M 18 Two tugs passed each other at beginning, four altogether. Lunch at SMG, turnaround below Priming Hook. Following wind all the way back.
Stuyvesant Landing July 29 M 12 Unexpected encounter with the Two Row Wampum Renewal Campaign canoe fleet.
Plum Point July 31 Both & seadogs 15 Around Pollepel Island, lunch at Foundry Dock Park, continued to World's End on easy water, turnaround at Arden Point. Return just as easy, met a ten barge tug.
Athens August 2 Both 10 Up west side MGF, visited eagle family on SMG, lunch at Gays Point. Easy paddle.
Stuyvesant Landing August 3 M 10 RR Village, Poolsburg, turnaround at Shady Harbor. Many eagles & too many dead catfish.
Coxsackie August 5 M & Angelo 8 Windy launch into active water. Explored Stockport Flats. Many eagles, again too many dead catfish & one osprey.
Coxsackie August 6 Both 8 Army Corps snagging at Coxsackie Island, entire eagle family gathered at SMG, a nice day.
Coxsackie August 10 M 19 Early quiet launch. Eagle photo op SMG, continued past MGF to beacon 129, one osprey. Wind picked up on return.
Stuyvesant Landing August 11 M 12 Another photo op at SMG. Beautiful day. Many tugs.
Coxsackie August 12 M 9 Another serene early launch to an eagle photo op SMG, also Four Mile Point & Stockport Creek.
Stuyvesant Landing August 23 Both 6 Tuneup paddle for Lake George swim meet, turnaround above Mill Creek. Three tugs, many eagles.
Hague August 25 Both 8 Escorted swimmers for Open Water 4 mile swim to Rogers Rock.
Coxsackie August 27 Both 8 Pleasant evening paddle around SMG, as usual many eagles.
Henry Hudson August 28 Both 7 Force3 HV test paddle. Successful.
North Germantown Landing August 30 Both 12 Roe Jan, Dubois Creek, ice cream on Catskill Creek, rest at Dutchman's Landing. Nice day.
Round Lake Sept 1 Both 4 Gray morning, calm lake. Explored Anthony Kill to Dwaas Kill.
Coxsackie Sept 3 M 15 Great lobelias at Coxsackie Creek, many eagles, one tug, turnaround at Cornell Park.
Coxsackie Sept 4 Both 13 Coxsackie Creek, many eagles aloft, few on branches, one tug, turnaround at RR Village.
Henry Hudson Sept 6 Both 14 Very low water at Hannacroix Creek, lunch at Schodack Island SP, Papscanee Creek, swapped boats.
Stuyvesant Landing Sept 7 M 15 Easy tide ride to HA & back. Eagles everywhere, three tugs.
Westport Sept 9 M & One Eye 18 Lake Champlain active from beginning to end — beam, quartering, following winds in succession. Wonderful paddle to Essex.
Coxsackie Sept 13 Both 12 Quiet water upstream, sudden strong following wind back. Turnaround at beach opposite RR Village.
Port Henry Sept 15 Both 13 Light wind early, explored Crown & Chimney Points. Wind picked up in Bulwagga Bay after locating fossil gastropods.
Huletts Landing Sept 17 M & Bill, Alan 13 Lunch at Black Mountain Point, continued to Paradise Bay. Return west side crossing obliquely on a gorgeous day.
Hague Sept 19 Both 14 Wind 5-10 knots at launch, stayed that way the whole day. A little work heading south, cross over at Sabbath Day Point, lunch at Agnes Island, glided back before a gentle following wind.
Dutchman's Landing Sept 20 Both 15 Upriver via Hallenbeck Creek past Hudson, lunch at MGF. Return along west side of Rogers Island.
Coxsackie Sept 23 Both 5 Windy with very low tide, lunch with a Hobie pilot at SMG.

Stuyvesant Landing Sept 26 Both 12 Windy tide ride to Stockport Flats, not much activity.
Port Douglas Sept 27 Both 11 Calm water turned rough at Trembleau Point, changed course, lunch on Schuyler Island. Explored Brown Point & Corlaer Bay.
South Bay State Boat Launch Sept 29 Both & seadogs 12 Large group paddled calm water to marshy head of Lake Champlain on a beautiful day, turned back by a beaver dam.
Athens Sept 30 Both 10 Dead calm water, SMG photo op, lunch in Brickyard Bay.
Coxsackie Oct 1 M 14 Again dead calm, stops near Poolsburg & at Blackbeard's Cove, turnaround at Shady Harbor.
Forts Ferry Road Oct 3 Both 5 Short paddle, warm & quiet, egrets.
Coxsackie Oct 5 M 10 Uneventful paddle around Stockport Flats, rising wind, wedding in the gazebo.
Coxsackie Oct 8 M 14 Easy paddle to Hudson to inspect launch facilities. Sudden strong wind as tide turned. Head-to-wind all the way back.
Freddie's Park Oct 9 Both 9 A preternatural stillness at launch, later encountered a solar-powered boat, many herons & egrets, thinning chestnut mats.
Bolton Landing Oct 10 Both 13 Shelving Rock, Black Mountain Point, Dollar Islands & out. Majestic & serene.
123rd Street Oct 12 M 8 Rendezvous with Ra at Waterford & Ceres at C-1, masts down.
Coxsackie Oct 13 Both & Vlad, Johna, Alex, Jean, David. 20 Explored Stockport Flats & MGF with visitors from NYC. Purchased garlic from Ceres after nocturnal return.
North Germantown Landing Oct 15 Both 14 Inbocht Bay, Dutchmans Landing, Rogers Island, Roe Jan, rendezvous with Ceres just before take-out. Superb photo-op.
Dutchman's Landing Oct 17 M 21 Another warm, calm day. Lunch at MGF, turnaround at Four Mile Point, stop at Rogers Island. Four tugs & a rusty dredge.
Freddie's Park Oct 19 M 10 Wager's Pond, lunch at Vischers Ferry, turnaround above Forts Ferry, pleasant following wind back.
Annsville Oct 21 M 16 Bouncy (not rough) water most of the day. Impromptu lunch stop near causeway, later stop at Popolopen Creek, a few tugs, no Ceres.
Stuyvesant Landing Oct 29 M 13 Dredge operations & boat rendezvous at Houghtaling Island, lunch at Hannacroix Preserve. Cool, bright day.
Coxsackie Nov 2 M 10 Water level high in Stockport Flats, very quiet, late rain. Adult eagles in Brickyard Bay.
Henry Hudson Nov 4 Both 8 Ceres encounter at Castleton, lunch at Schodack Island SP, eagle hiding behind tree on Campbell Island.
Coxsackie Nov 15 Both 14 Calm tide ride to New Baltimore. Many commercial ships converged near Mill Creek area including a very slow crane barge.
Coxsackie Nov 16 M 17 SMG & Brickyard Bay, very quiet. Two eagles on Coxsackie Island. Turnaround above Mill Creek.
Coxsackie Nov 21 Both 6 Cut short by unexpected heavy weather.
